Cristiano Ronaldo has left Juventus and will return to Manchester United, the Premier League club announced on Friday, in a €15 million deal with a potential further €8m in add-ons, according to ESPN sources.
The 36-year-old will again play at Old Trafford 12 years after leaving United to join Real Madrid in 2009, where he remained until joining Juventus in 2018.
While the rumours had started weeks ago, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri confirmed on Thursday that Ronaldo had asked to leave the club immediately.
Leading European publications had confirmed that the Ronaldo to Manchester City gossip was well on its way to being true. Until news of the same triggered Manchester United’s interest and resulted in a whirlwind transfer day.
Reportedly it was a call from Sir Alex Ferguson that changed the mind of the player to join his old club.
By signing Ronaldo to a presumably monster contract, United may have relinquished the opportunity to sign a once-in-a-lifetime striking option next year.
